The money will be used to resurface stretches of road which have been identified with defects including potholes.
The Council is also top of the UK National Cyclists Organisation CTC website for filling in reported pot holes as quickly as possible.
Councillor Lynn Riley (Conservative – Weaver ward), Executive Member for Community and Environment, said 'The last two freezing winters have taken their toll on our 1,400 mile road network, accelerating the number of potholes which have been formed when water gets into cracks in the road surface and expands.'
'The affects of last winter saw us invest an extra £1 million and this winter we have allocated an extra £3 million on top of the regular £10 million of highway maintenance we carry out. The extra money – which is available immediately – will enable us to carry out extra road resurfacing schemes across the Borough and accelerate our asset recovery programme.'
'We will need some spells of good weather over the next three months for this work to be carried out and our Highway Service is working with contractor BAM Nuttall to prioritise the roads and footways that are in the worst condition after the recent bad weather.'
'With the larger resurfacing schemes every effort is made to minimise disruption however there will be some inevitable disruption to road users in the short term. We ask members of the public for their patience and understanding of the fact that work is being done to improve our roads for the future.'
'This is a key element of our Road Care Scheme which residents can use to report any faults to us, whether it is a pot hole, a blocked drain, fly tipping or a street light not working. Extra eyes in our communities helps us to quickly identify a defect and get it into the programme of works.'
Faults can be reported by visiting the Highway Faults page or calling the Council Contact Centre on 0300 123 7036.
Added Councillor Riley 'Working together with our residents and contractor is having real results. We are also proud of the fact that we are number one on The UK National Cyclists Organisation CTC website for filling in as quickly as possible potholes which are reported to us.
'We continue to work hard to keep people and businesses on the move in West Cheshire during some of the harshest winter weather on record.'

Graham commented 'It's great that we have a council that is delivering on the things that matter to residents.'
'If any constituents know of any problem pot holes, please email me on help@grahamevansmp.com and I'll take it up with the Council as soon as possible.'
